Frequently asked questions
Is RunwayWatch read-only?
Yes. We request read-only access via Intuit OAuth 2.0 and never write a single entry to your QuickBooks. You can revoke access from your Intuit account at any time.
How is runway calculated?
Runway (months) = current cash balance ÷ net monthly burn. Cash balance is the sum of your bank and cash accounts on the latest balance sheet. Net burn is the trailing operating cash outflow averaged over your configured window (default 3 months).
What's the difference between gross and net burn rate?
Gross burn is all cash spent in a period — payroll, rent, vendors, everything. Net burn subtracts any revenue or cash inflows from that figure. Net burn is what actually shrinks your reserves; gross burn shows total operating cost. RunwayWatch shows both.
What is the cash-zero date?
The cash-zero date is the projected calendar date your cash balance reaches zero at the current net burn rate. It's a straight projection — it does not account for fundraising or future revenue changes unless you model those in the scenario planner.
What QuickBooks permissions does RunwayWatch request?
We request read access to your Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Statement of Cash Flows reports. We do not request access to contacts, payroll, transactions by vendor, or any write permission. Tokens are stored encrypted (AES-256-GCM) and are never shared.
Is there a free plan?
There's no perpetual free tier. Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial — no credit card required — and during the trial you get full access. There's also a public live demo you can explore without signing up. After that, RunwayWatch is included in Starter ($49/mo, any one tool, 1 company), Suite ($199/mo, all 11 TechForCFO tools, up to 3 entities), or Bookkeeping (from $549/mo, Suite plus a dedicated bookkeeper).
What do I get with RunwayWatch?
Full features on every paid plan and during the trial: live runway and cash-zero date, gross and net burn, runway and burn trend charts, the scenario planner, threshold and burn-spike alerts, monthly burn emails, a configurable trailing window, and CSV export. Starter covers 1 company; Suite covers up to 3 entities.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancel anytime from the billing portal. Your access continues through the end of your billing period and you won't be charged again.
Does RunwayWatch work for cash-positive companies?
Yes — if your net burn is negative (you're generating cash), RunwayWatch shows a positive cash flow rate and marks your runway as unlimited. The trend and scenario tools are still useful for monitoring cash generation over time.
